We are excited to share that Shannon McMahon, one of Microassist’s Document Remediation Specialists, recently earned the Accessible Document Specialist (ADS) credential from the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP).
Shannon’s hours of study and preparation, in addition to her work remediating documents for Microassist’s clients, puts her in an elite class of only 81 ADS certificants worldwide.
The IAAP ADS program qualifies professionals who create and test accessible documents. Accessible documents are created or remediated in a way to eliminate exclusionary access barriers to information. These documents include, but are not limited to: PDFs, forms, tables, Word documents, and PowerPoint slides.
The ADS certification is intended for professionals specializing in the document accessibility field and includes the following areas:
- Document creation
- Document remediation
- Auditing and testing accessibility
- Accessibility planning and training
- Policy development, promotion, advocacy, and advising
“Shannon’s efforts to earn this rare and respected credential is a testament to not only her high level of document accessibility knowledge, but also to her dedication to our shared commitment in removing barriers to digital content through applying accessibility best practices on our client’s behalf. We are excited to support her contributions to the ADS practice community.” – Donald Twining, Microassist’s COO
ADS certification requires not only knowledge of document remediation tools and accessibility checkers, but also extensive hands-on experience with structural elements, WCAG standards, and contextual implications for document users.
