The department also secured an agreement with the Town of Lawrence, Wisconsin, to resolve its complaint alleging HAVA violations…
Mid-Missouri counties address accessibility barriers to voting

One in seven American voters with disabilities reported barriers to voting in 2022. Counties in Missouri have offered accommodations, but voters and voting rights advocates are still expressing concerns ahead of the general election about transportation and voter registration. A 2022 study from the Missouri Foundation for Health showed that one in six disabled voters did not know how or when to register. Boone County Clerk Brianna Lennon said she’s worked with the Missouri Council on Developmental Disabilities to help create more accessible voting information that’s available in both English and Spanish…
Hays County ensures voting access for people with disabilities after DOJ investigation

Hays County has reached an agreement with the United States following an investigation into providing accessible polling for voters with disabilities. According to U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza, Hays County is now complying with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which prohibits discrimination based on disability by local or state governments in any of their services. In 2023, the Department of Justice visited 14 polling places during the runoff election to investigate their level of accessibility…

Indianapolis resident Nancy Griffin maneuvers over tree roots on a trail in Eagle Creek Park — using a motorized wheelchair affectionately known as Peggy. “Short for Pegasus, because she flies,” Griffin said. ‘Bare bones’: Disability rights advocates say New Orleans’ disaster plans fall short

Senators Push Back On Potential Changes To Subminimum Wage Program

With federal officials expected to propose a new rule that could end a government program allowing people with disabilities to be paid less than minimum wage, some lawmakers are already raising red flags. The U.S. Department of Labor is planning to issue a notice of proposed rulemaking related to Section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act. The law, which dates back to 1938, allows employers to obtain special certificates from the Labor Department authorizing them to pay people with disabilities less than the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour…

Enniskillen woman launches drive for hotel accessibility
