SingleSpeed Brewing Co., an Iowa corporation that owns and operates a facility at 325 Commercial Street in Waterloo, Iowa (the “Facility”), has agreed to settle a dispute with the United States regarding an allegation that it violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”). The settlement agreement resolves allegations that the Facility was noncompliant with the ADA’s accessibility requirements for public accommodations. As part of the settlement agreement, SingleSpeed has agreed to provide additional accessible seating to its seating spaces, standing spaces, and other dining surfaces…
New York Continues to Be a Friendly Venue for ADA Title III Plaintiffs

It is no surprise that New York has become the nation’s leader in ADA Title III and website accessibility litigation, bypassing California by a substantial margin in 2022. District Court judges in New York – especially in the Southern District – have been increasingly reluctant to dismiss website accessibility lawsuits before discovery. The Oscars Are Expanding Accessibility To The Red Carpet This Year

Oregon School for the Deaf student named Oregon’s 2023 Poetry Out Loud Champ

For the second year in a row, a student from the Oregon School for the Deaf has been named Oregon’s Poetry Out Loud champion. 16-year-old sophomore Kari Morgan was named the 2023 Oregon Poetry Out Loud state champion at Saturdays contest in Salem. The poems Morgan presented at the state contest were: “Self-Portrait” by Chase Twichell; “Ways of Talking” by Ha Jin; and “Invictus” by William Ernest Henley. The Oregon Arts Commission says Morgan was one of 10 finalists who competed at the state contest, after winning school competitions and advancing through regionals…

Oklahoma Strikes Down Bill Aiming To End Corporal Punishment For Disabled Students

Oklahoma lawmakers struck down a bill on Tuesday that, if passed, would have ended the use of corporal punishment on disabled students. Corporal punishment is defined in the bill as a “deliberate infliction of physical pain by hitting, paddling, spanking, slapping or any other physical force used as a means of discipline.” The legislation would have prohibited the use of this form of punishment on disabled students in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act…

Death, blindness and eyeballs removed after US eyedrops recall

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have identified 68 patients across 16 states with a rare strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The strain had never been found in the US before this latest outbreak. In addition to the one death, eight patients have suffered vision loss, and four have had eyes surgically removed. Most of the patients diagnosed with the infection reported using eyedrops and artificial tears, according to the CDC. Ten different brands were initially identified as possibly linked to the outbreak, the CDC said…

Ontario’s 2025 accessibility goals ‘impossible’ without urgent action

Ontario will fail to meet its goal of making the province accessible for people with disabilities by 2025 unless the government takes urgent action, a new report has found. Hip-hop artist Mattmac continues to innovate with accessible clothing line
