Microassist Awarded State Purchasing Contract for Website Accessibility Services
Government contract helps public-sector agencies build online training, applications, documents, and websites for people with disabilities
Austin, Texas, April 28, 2017 — Microassist has 25 years of making government websites, applications, online courses, and documents navigable, usable, and perceivable to Texans with disabilities. Today, company executives announced that it has been awarded a Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) contract for accessibility services, continuing its history of making digital content usable by everyone.
The competitively bid contract, managed by the state’s technology agency, simplifies the purchasing process for government agencies. Through the contract, DIR customers can easily work with Microassist to evaluate, build, or remediate their electronic materials and platforms at DIR-negotiated, taxpayer-friendly rates.
“Citizens increasingly get their government services online,” said Jack McElaney, Microassist Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “We are proud to support delivery of government services to citizens, schools, and businesses in a way that everyone can use, including individuals who have visual, auditory, mobility, or cognitive challenges.”
The contract offers accessible elearning (online training), web, and application development services to state agencies, local governments, higher education, and other eligible customers, including out-of-state agencies. For existing materials and platforms, Microassist offers accessibility audit and remediation services. The company can also train agency staff in accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.0, Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act, and Texas Administrative Codes 206 and 213.
Microassist has provided accessible products and services to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
“Texas has been a national leader in government accessibility,” said Hiram Kuykendall, Microassist Chief Technology Officer. “We’ve been fortunate to partner with many agencies in delivering projects that are accessible to everyone, and we look forward to doing that even more through the services offered under this contract.”
The contract (DIR-TSO-3813) is in effect through April 13, 2018, with three optional one-year extensions. For more about Microassist’s Accessibility IT Services for government email [email protected].
